At the gym

You can train without a policy.

You do not need a policy to walk into the gym. A normal week of pads, bags, and fitness is not a hospital visit. Private hospitals here are good, and they are not free. A scan, stitches, or a night in a ward can still add up.

Four levels

What the gym means by training.

1

Pads, bags, and technical work

No real partner contact.

2

Sparring

This is where many holiday policies stop. Genki Traveler covers it.

3

Unpaid gym shows and festival fights

On Genki these generally read as friendly fights.

4

Professional sport

Regular pay, sponsorship, or a salary. Not covered. A one-off paid bout is a grey area. Check with Genki before you agree a date.

Traveler

What Traveler usually includes.

  • Medical up to €1,000,000 for unexpected injury and illness.
  • Named: training, sparring, friendly fights, and self-defence.
  • Monthly, for 1–12 months.
  • Start age 69 or under.
  • Deductible typically €50 per claim.
  • After you land. If you had no prior cover, the first 14 days are emergency-only.
  • Dental. Accident-related dental up to €1,000. Routine dental is not included.
  • Physiotherapy. Six prescribed sessions per case. Broader rehab is not included.

On the road

Scooters.

All normal driving is covered, on any vehicle. Engine size does not switch the cover off. It decides whether you need a licence.

  • The driver wears a helmet.
  • Passengers are covered without one.
  • A licence is required where the law requires one.
  • Exception: a light motorcycle at 110 km/h or less and 125cc or less, or electric 11 kW or less. Both must be true.
  • Racing, race training, and unsupervised off-road are out.

Do not drink and ride.

The limit

What this is not.

It is cover for unexpected medical costs while you travel, train, spar, and take unpaid friendly fights. It is not professional sport, and the gym cannot place the policy or backdate a fight onto it.

If Thailand is home

Native, if you live here.

Lifelong international health cover, not a holiday policy. Minimum one year. Age 55 or under at the start. Basic or Premium. Deductible of none, €500, or €1,000.
